Egyptian Bronze Statue

One of the most unique finds of antiquity include the mummified remains of three bulls found in Egypt—surely one of the greatest places antiquities has been dug up. These were found in the tombs of Dashour. These bulls were considered very sacred and when they died, they were given an obviously extravagant burial. The animals were seen as icons or images of the soul of Osiris. As air is wont to do, the mummies began to dissolve quickly when exposed to oxygen. The bulls were put into a glass case to lessen this effect. Louis Napoleon was particularly interested in these three bulls when he visited the New York Historical Society.

One of the neatest antiquities unearthed and stored at the New York Historical Society is a twenty-two foot papyrus, written for a funeral.
